Press Release March 2008 Lions Club supports the Willow Tree Centre
Since it was formed in 1971 the Chipping Sodbury Lions Club has organized fund raising events raising many thousands of pounds which it has donated to support many local charities and organizations as well as children’s charities in India. One of the most recent organisations the Lions Club has supported is the Willow Tree Centre, Abbotswood, Yate. It was pleased to respond to a request for financial assistance from the Willow Tree to sponsor for one year the cost of information signs attached to two Community Transport vehicles advertising the Centre and for items of much needed furniture. The two vehicles carrying the information plaques are now operating on routes in the Yate and Chipping Sodbury area. The Willow Tree Centre came into being some four years ago and relies largely on donations and their own fund raising events. The Centre provides confidential support and information for women facing an unplanned pregnancy or following an abortion, miscarriage or stillbirth. Their sex and relationship education programme ‘evaluate…informing choice’ is also available for use in secondary schools in the South Gloucestershire and Bristol area. The work they undertake has been, and continues to be of great comfort and assistance to many offering a service not available in the area before. The Lions Club Welfare Group supported the request for funds considering it to be a very worthy organisation requiring the highest level of publicity. The Willow Tree Centre is based at the St Nicholas Family Centre, Abbottswood, Yate.Opening times are: Monday 10.30am to 12.30am, Tuesday and Wednesday 1.30pm to 3.30pm and at other times by appointment.Tel: 01454 324080 or visit the website at www.thewillowtreecentre.org.uk Chipping Sodbury Lions Club Further information from John Davis - 01454 882760 |
